Victor Palomino is an artist born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1974. He attend film school and graduated in 1998. Moved to the United States in 1999 and established residency in North Carolina in 2001. Over the years, he has worked with different mediums including video, photography, music, writing, and he has been a photographer and reporter with Spanish newspapers and radio programs in the area. Palomino turned to visual art using nontraditional materials as a medium to express his ideas. Palomino’s work combines movement, geometry and pre-Columbian art and design as an inspiration. He recently moved from Asheville, N.C to Louisville, K.Y.
In December 2011, Palomino curated “Nuestras Voces, Nuestras Historias/ Our Voices, Our Stories” art exhibition; a collaborative art show based on local immigrant experiences. The exhibition portrayed the work and lives of artist from Mexico, Colombia, Texas, Kansas, Romania and North Carolina and was showed in three different venues in 201-2012. During this exhibition Palomino displayed the Story Booth, a mobile storytelling booth that documented the experiences of attendees at the exhibition. He also participated in group exhibitions in Winston-Salem and Queen University in Charlotte. In 2014, Palomino was selected for Con A de Arte, an annual celebration that showcased Hispanic arts and culture at the Mint Museum in Charlotte.
Palomino was one of the founding members of CHIVA TOP, a school bus transformed into a mobile workshop space for creativity, community organizing, video story collection and opportunities. He also produced La Radio, a Spanish language radio show covering news and information about the Latino community for Asheville Free Media.
